Dr Thompson grew up in Amarillo, TX. He attended Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1982 with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for over 10 years as a design engineer and engineering manager before deciding to make a career change. He received his medical degree in 1997 from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. While in medical school, he worked in the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory where he conducted research and published on the effects of cyclical compressive loads on an articular cartilage substitute. He was Vice President of his medical school class, and received the Holt Leadership Award. He did his orthopaedic residency at Miami Valley Hospital/Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. After completion of his residency in 2002, he moved to Texarkana, TX where he joined the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Collom & Carney Clinic. Dr Thompson is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Texas Medical Association. His mechanical engineering background and thorough understanding of biomechanics and materials provide an advantage in his chosen career. In his free time, he enjoys running and helping with his children's' sports teams.
